What is red light therapy anyway?

This form of light therapy is also known as photobiomodulation. The lamps use specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light, with the goal of improving cellular function.

The light penetrates the skin and can activate mitochondria in cells, resulting in improved cell repair, reduction of inflammation and pain and promotion of tissue healing.

Red light has a wavelength between 620 and 750 nanometers and penetrates about 5 millimeters deep into the skin. Near-infrared light has a wavelength between 750 and 1200 nanometers and penetrates deeper into the skin, up to about 1-3 centimeters.

How do I choose the right lamp for the face?

All infrared and red light lamps on this page can be used for the face. The difference between the lamps has to do with several factors, including size, radiation (measured in mW/cm2), number of LEDs, lifespan and any included accessories.

The Armor 500, Armor 600 and our face mask (with infrared and red light) are designed specifically for the face. The other products have a broader scope of application, but can also be used specifically for the face.
